One of the World’s Largest Jewellery Retailers to Invest $75M in NZ Expansion

As US$6.2bn global retail giant Malabar Gold & Diamonds, prepares to make its highly anticipated entry into New Zealand, Impact PR is supporting the brand’s launch with a strategic communications campaign. With extensive experience in luxury retail and corporate PR, the Auckland PR agency will see the expansion story reach key audiences, highlighting the brand’s heritage, craftsmanship, and commitment to sustainability.

Malabar Gold & Diamonds, a globally recognised leader in fine jewellery, is set to expand its operations into New Zealand, marking its 14th international market. With over 375 showrooms across 13 countries, the brand is making a significant investment of NZ$75 million to establish three new stores in Auckland (Botany Town Centre), Wellington, and Hamilton.

The move comes as part of a broader strategy enabled by the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which took effect in January 2024. The agreement facilitates enhanced trade relations and streamlines Malabar’s business expansion from its UAE-based international hub.

“As a brand with a strong global presence, the UAE-NZ CEPA allows us to seamlessly introduce our collections to a new audience while strengthening economic ties between our two nations,” said Mr. M.P Ahammed, Chairman of Malabar Group. “This expansion is a key milestone in our vision to become the world’s leading jewellery retailer.”

Beyond luxury, Malabar Gold & Diamonds is deeply committed to corporate social responsibility. The brand has pledged to donate 5% of its profits in each operating country to health, housing, education, and other charitable initiatives, ensuring a positive impact on local communities.

“New Zealand presents an exciting opportunity for us to engage with discerning customers who value authenticity and craftsmanship,” said Mr. Shamlal Ahamed, Managing Director – International Operations. “With our deep-rooted heritage and commitment to ethical business practices, we are set to redefine the local jewellery landscape.”

With sustainability at its core, Malabar Gold & Diamonds will maintain its internationally recognised ethical sourcing standards, eco-friendly manufacturing processes, and community welfare initiatives.

Malabar Gold & Diamonds’ entry into New Zealand represents a new era for luxury jewellery in the country—combining artistry, responsibility, and investment in the local economy.
